Hvalfisken

"Hvalfisken" (the whale fish)

- Frantisek Balek

Donated by The Albani fond in connection with the 750 city anniversary 25 february 2003.

The figure has little story to it about a ship which was build in Kalmar in 1801. Here it was named Zenogen. The year after it was sold to the Royal trade of greenland and it was here it got its name "Hvalfisken" (the Whale fish) after the ships headfigure. The ship sailed untill 1899 and is sold in 1914 to Seamens missions seamens school in Svendborg as stationary training ship. The school is later named Svendborg's school of navigation. As Ring Andersen's Shipsbuilding company every year did an inspection of the ship, the figure was given to them when the ship was sold in 1936 to Strib (city). Here it was used as a contractor's ship in Fredericia (city) and later used as barge in the building of the Limfjord bridge. It sank in 1942.
The school has a copy of the figure plus a little model of the ship.

The figure is found at the harbour.
